I'd like to generate a script to keep every 100th frame in a video track -- i've been writing various scripts to get familiar with the API but unless I missed something, it's really hard to cut frames... if there were a cut() method I could iterate over all FrameCount and delete frames 1 to 99 until i reach the end of the track.

Is vegas even the right tool for this? I want to automate this for a large video track to render many smaller "thumbvideos" at every marker in the file. I looked at AviSynth which has the capacity to trim frames but can't render or save any subtracks without manual intervention.

Yes, that can be scripted. Instead of "Cut" you might look at the "Split(newLength)" command. Your first split could be 1 frame. The next split could be 100 frames. Then delete the 100 frame event. Then repeat with a 1 frame split followed by a 100 frame split deleting the 100 frame event. This will be repeated until you reach the end of the original event.

Once you've done all the splitting and removing, you could then move all the events together eliminating the 100 frame gaps.

You might also look at pre-built tools that already perform similar functions such as Time Bandit in Excalibur.
