I need help fitting the heart background into the movie screen. I can size it but as you can see the background is not angled properly. How do I position it in 3D space so that it fits on the screen. Working with Sony Vegas Pro 13. Thanks.

pan/crop it to the same ratio in size as the project then use track motion to scale it to the size & location you want.

Thanks Happy Friar but how do I "pan/crop it to the same ratio in size as the project". I used pan/crop to size it but as you can see in the clip since the movie screen is at an angle to the camera it won't fit properly. Isn't there a way to angle the heart background in 3D space the way you can angle text?

Thanks

Al, anything you can do with text, you can do with video or image. You may need to use 3D Track Motion if the standard rotations won't do what you are wanting.

Thanks, but how do I rotate text or video on the X or horizontal axis? Is there a tutorial?

Ok, to get the pan/crop of the image the same ratio as your project:
get the resolution of your project.
Divide the height by the width (example: the project is 1920x1080. 1080/1920 = 0.5625).
Now, take the width of the image (let's say the image is 2000x3000). Multiply the width by that ratio you came up with (example, 3000*0.5652= 1695.5). That is the height the pan/crop will need to make it the same ratio as the project.
So, go to the pan/crop window. Make sure lock aspect ration is not enabled. Type the new height size in to the pan/crop position - height area. Now it should be the same ratio. If it's not, the project PAR in the setting is different then the image (IE 720x480 & 1440x1080 project don't have 1.0 PAR for the footage). Right click on your image, click the "media" tab and change the Pixel Aspect to the same as the project.

For the 3d:
Put the event on a track by itself.
Click the "Track Motion" button on the timeline header (on the left).
When that window opens, under the word "preset" change "source alpha" to "3D source alpha".
Now you can rotate/move along all three axis. The key to using this 3D track motion UI is understanding this: the camera is always fixed, you're moving the scenery in 3D space. It's the opposite of a 3D game/modeling app.

Once you understand that, you can do almost anything with the 3D track motion. I did this in about an hour:
