some neat stuff there. don't like the new default layout (mine's COMPLETELY different) but it's still customizable.
complaint about the newletter though: the compression on the images makes them kind of hard to read the words in the images.
But besides that, thanks! |

| I agree with the image issue. I'm using Acrobat 4 to create the PDF files. Can't afford a newer version right now. Suppose I could look at other alternatives... got any suggestions of one you like? |

Openoffice.org makes good PDF's. Infranview makes PDF's but defaults to security ON, so disable that.
But for documents I type I use openoffice. Nothing beats it imho: do your stuff, hit the PDF button, looks excellent. Been doing the church newsletters that way for ~2 years now. |

| Except... I assemble the newsletters in PageMaker. So I'd need something that works as a print driver. |

Ed, your latest newsletter is absolutely superb!!
I got an email from Sony telling me about Vegas 9, and it sounded like the only features were support for some very high-end camera formats, and the addition of better support for really large still photos. In that email, of the top six reasons for upgrading, only two are new.
Not exactly compelling marketing.
I then stopped by the Sony forum, a place I left several months ago, only to find that it is now dominated by a few pretty nasty trolls. I waded through all the huffy comments made to everyone who had questions about the obvious bugs in Vegas 8.0c and 8.1, looking for more insight or information as to whether Vegas 9 has anything more than what is listed here:
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro9/techspecs
Fortunately someone posted a link to your newsletter which I have now read twice. Why can't Sony marketing put out something like this? I have read all the Sony release notes and literature at the Sony Creative site, and they make no mention about all the marvelous workflow enhancements. Nor do they bother to post any observations by real beta users about stability improvements. I realize that doing so would be tantamount to an admission that the previous release had stability problems, but if you want to win back people who left, that's a great way to do it.
Anyway, my main point is that your newsletter was BY FAR the most helpful, informative, and important document I've read about Vegas 9.
Oh, and BTW, I just edited a multi-cam shoot using Vegas 7.0d and Excalibur 5 (it works; I like it; so I haven't upgraded). I've used 8.0c for really small projects, and I use it for rendering, but I didn't want to take the time to learn its multicam functionality, and I didn't want to risk having to recover from crashes. I did a two-hour fashion show multicam shoot in just a few hours. Thank you Excalibur! |

| Just in case anyone is wondering, the fade time for the new automatic 4-points envelopes mentioned in the newsletter is set in Options->Preferences->Editing tab under "Time selection envelope fades (ms)" Default is 50 ms, at least when using 25 fps. |
