A possible typo - I think “liner light” color space should be "linear light", having heard vaguely of it before in some other context.
Googling on ["linear light" video], I found a most informative article by Glenn Chan http://glennchan.info/articles/technical/chroma/chroma1.htm. The subject is also covered by http://www.poynton.com/notes/colour_and_gamma/GammaFAQ.html, which interestingly states that 14 bits per component are needed if we want totally smooth shading gradients. Presumably if we're applying nonlinear effects such as color curves then to get a 14 bit resolution result we may need even more bits in the source, 16 perhaps. 10 bit resolution is in that case a welcome step forward... |
